In India, a country of 1.38 billion people and with a sex ratio of 1020 females per 1000 males, women are given the status of goddesses. When we say, goddesses, we worship them, we follow certain rules or rituals for them or the least, respect them. But women in India, are they really treated like goddesses? You specifically know the answer if you live or have lived in the country.
There are numerous reasons and issues that have compelled Indian women in all fields. Young women particularly are the most vulnerable to these and many other problems. Their adulting years bring new challenges every day which they have to tackle among many restrictions and boundaries set by the other people of the society.
The Key Issues Faced by Young Girls
1. Gender Disparity: This starts right at birth for many women. Equality (or the lack of it) is a recurring issue when it comes to women and girls, whether it’s unequal access to schooling for girls in developing countries or unequal pay for women in the workplace.
2. Social Stigma and Poverty Condition: Women have been the targets of crime and violence. The social stigma that women are a lesser segment of society is to blame for this. Poor women are forced by their situation of poverty into slavery to another family to survive in this cruel world. These girls have to start at a very young age and also they get half as paid as men just because of their 'Women.'
3. Access to Education: According to a 2013 UNESCO report, 1 in 4 young women in developing nations did not finish basic school, and 31 million girls of primary school age did not get to even attend school. For a world that is dynamic and learning is the only way to evolve, this educational inadequacy is bizarre!
4. Child Marriage: Between 2011 and 2020, 140 million females are expected to marry as children. Child marriage leads to psychological, social, mental and physical issues for that young girl. Girls who are married before turning 18 are often barred from going to school, run the danger of issues from having children too early, and are more likely to experience violence from their intimate partners.
5. Water and Sanitation: Women and kids suffer the most when access to sanitary sanitation facilities and clean drinking water is limited. For instance, girls who attend schools without proper bathrooms may skip school when having their periods out of concern for shame or stigma. Women in many countries have to spend hours of their day fetching water from miles away.
These are just a few of the problems named here that are faced by women on a regular base. The cost of being a woman is very high, it is in the form of not having access to water, education, making decisions for your own life and many more.
We as human beings need to stop this, our fellow sisters are suffering since years, and we have to take decisive steps to stop this discrimination against women and help them live the life they deserve.
Many initiatives at both small and large scales are taken in order to help younger women live the life they deserve. One of them is the Mangalashray Samajik Sanstha, Mumbai. Today, India sees a lot of girls left on the streets, some of them do not have a way to any basic needs nor have anyone who looks after them. For such vulnerable young women, Mangalashray Samajik Sanstha is the loving hand that they look for everywhere.
The shelter home has girls under it who get support with each and every need. Food, shelter, clothing, education, financial, and emotional support as well! The owner is a lady who has been working tirelessly to save numerous girls from falling prey to the cruelty of this society. She supports and nurtures them like a mother so the young girls at the shelter home learn to fight the unjust world and be on their own feet.
No dream of a girl in this shelter home has ever been put down by the owner. College fees, admissions, the study of medicines, engineering and even law have been supported dedicatedly by the shelter home. To date, more than 50 girls are standing on their feet because of the education that they received with the support of Mangal Ashray Samajik Sanstha. These girls have all risen up from their terrible situations and now they are not only independent but also have their own family, friends and a purpose of helping more girls just like them.
In spite of these encouraging outcomes of all the support provided by Mangal Ashray Samajik Sanstha, they are extremely constrained in their efforts because of the funds. They need your help to raise funds to change the lives of these girls.
The dream of the organization is to ensure every neglected victim, orphan, or abused girl/woman from society is sheltered in a safe, hygienic, healthy, homely, and happy environment. And you can be the one helping to sculpt the bright future of these well-deserving young women.
Please come forward, we need your help to support these beautiful daughters of our country.
