United Nations Day: Celebrating the Inspiration Behind Our Work

Ever since its inception, Filaantro and Child Help Foundation (CHF) have been dedicated to making India a better place. Our mission aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, as we believe that these goals offer a powerful framework for creating a brighter, more sustainable future. Through our various programs, we address several key SDGs, including:

  1. Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3)
  2. Quality Education (SDG 4)
  3. Zero Hunger (SDG 2)
  4. Gender Equality (SDG 5)
  5. Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6)
  6. Village Development (SDGs 8 & 10)
  7. Life Below Water (SDG 14)
  8. Life on Land (SDG 15)
  9. Humanitarian Relief (SDGs 11, 13, & 17)

These programs are not only rooted in our mission but also deeply inspired by the UN's commitment to global peace, equality, and development.

The world commemorates United Nations Day, a momentous occasion that marks the anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN) in 1945. The day is a celebration of the mission and values of the UN and serves as a reminder of the organization's pivotal role in fostering international cooperation, peace, security, and development. With over 193 member states, the UN stands as a symbol of global unity, striving to create a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world.

The United Nations was established in the aftermath of World War II, an era marked by unprecedented devastation. The war had caused immense human suffering, loss of life, and destruction, and the global community was determined to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again. On October 24, 1945, the UN Charter came into force, officially establishing the United Nations. This charter is a treaty that binds member nations to uphold principles of peace, security, human rights, and international law.

Since then, United Nations Day has been celebrated to honour the creation of this global body and to reflect on its contributions to peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, and international diplomacy. It serves as a reminder that through dialogue, cooperation, and collaboration, nations can work together to resolve conflicts and address global challenges.

Among the UN's significant achievements is its peacekeeping missions, where international forces are deployed to conflict zones to help maintain peace and prevent the escalation of violence, which are also currently deployed in various conflict zones. These missions have contributed to stabilizing war-torn regions and enabling peace negotiations.

United Nations Day is not just a day of remembrance but a celebration of the shared ideals that bring humanity together. It underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges. As we commemorate this day, it is crucial to reflect on the progress made and to recognize that achieving global peace, security, and sustainability requires the collective efforts of nations, communities, and individuals. Let this day inspire a renewed commitment to unity, dialogue, and the belief that a better world is possible through cooperation.
