What is sustainable energy?

Sustainable energy is obtained from resources that can sustain the current operations without compromising the energy needs or climate of future generations. The most popular renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, and hydropower, are also renewable.

Sustainable energy is defined as energy that satisfies the requirements of current generations without jeopardizing future generations' ability to satisfy their own needs.

Finding clean, renewable energy sources—sources that regenerate themselves rather than sources that may be depleted—is important to sustainable energy.

Sustainable energy is energy that will never be depleted or exhausted. It has an infinite supply.

Solar energy:

Although sunlight appears to be a perfect renewable energy source, the quantity of solar energy we may utilize depends on the time of day, the season of the year, and geographical location. 

To fully utilize the sun's power, solar farms need to be paired with storage systems. Solar energy, like geothermal energy, is frequently employed as a direct heat source and electricity generator.

 

Wind energy:

The wind is an abundant source of renewable energy. Wind farms are becoming more common in the United Kingdom, with wind power providing an increasing contribution to the National Grid. 

Turbines are used to drive generators, which subsequently send power into the National Grid to generate electricity from wind energy. Despite the availability of household or 'off-grid' generating solutions, not every property is appropriate for a residential wind turbine.

Mechanical energy may also be turned at high speeds to generate electricity.

 

 Usage of Renewable resources

 

Hydro energy:

Hydropower is one of the most commercially established renewable energy resources. One of the oldest sources of electricity, requiring not only massive amounts of water but also a formidable amount of force. 

Hydropower was the largest source of renewable electricity until 2019.  A large reservoir may be utilized to generate a regulated flow of water that will drive a turbine, generating power, by constructing a dam or barrier. 

This energy source is frequently more dependable than solar or wind power, and it also allows electricity to be stored for use when demand peaks. Hydro, like wind energy, can be more profitable as a commercial energy source in some scenarios.

 

Tidal energy:

This is another type of hydro energy that employs tidal currents to power turbine generators twice a day. Although, unlike some other hydro energy sources, tidal flow is not constant, it is fairly predictable and may thus compensate for periods when the tide current is low.

 

Geothermal energy:

Depending on the resource and technique employed, geothermal energy may be used in a variety of ways, including heating and cooling buildings with geothermal heat pumps, generating electricity with geothermal power plants, and heating structures with direct-use applications.


 

Biomass energy:

Energy generated or produced by living or once-living creatures is referred to as biomass energy. Plants, such as corn and soy, are the most frequent biomass resources utilised for energy. These creatures' energy may be burnt to generate heat or transformed into electricity.
