National Tiger Awareness Day

National Tiger Awareness Day

As per WWF, every year on July 29th, Global Tiger Day is observed to raise awareness about this majestic yet endangered large cat. The day was established in 2010 when the 13 tiger range nations banded together to form Tx2, a worldwide objective to double the population of wild tigers by 2022.

The only surviving species are the Siberian Tiger, Bengal Tiger, Malayan Tiger, Sumatran Tiger, and Indo-Chinese Tiger. Tigers are one of the world's most iconic animals. Tigers are considered an 'Umbrella Animal' since their protection in the same habitat safeguards numerous other species.

A century ago, Asia was home to 100,000 tigers. According to estimates, less than 4,000 tigers live in the wild today. One of the day's goals was to double that amount by 2022. It is known as the Tx2 Initiative. As per guidely, the Tx2 Initiative has raised around $350 million each year to help tiger conservation.

The monies will be used to pay for rangers and detectives who will be on the lookout for poachers. The charity also funds research into tiger numbers and migrations, habitat preservation, and the installation of hundreds of wildlife trail cameras.

"Doubling tigers is about tigers, about the whole of nature - and it's also about us"  - Marco Lambertini, Director General WWF

The tiger is widely regarded as the world's largest large mammal. Tigers are easily identified by their distinctive orange and black stripes on their face and body. Currently, India is home to 70% of the world's tigers. This information was given by the Union Environment Minister of India.

The goal of International Tiger Day is to raise public awareness about the importance of tiger conservation. The goal of the day is to establish a global network dedicated to protecting tigers and their natural habitats. We preserve other wildlife and our woods by providing tigers with a safe and growing habitat. By commemorating International Tiger Day, we can strive toward a future in which tigers and humans can coexist.

This year's theme for International Tiger Day 2022 is “India launches Project Tiger to revive the tiger population”.

Adopting a tiger might help the WWF and the work it undertakes. They support efforts that work with local communities to protect tigers while simultaneously taking aggressive action against poaching and illicit trade.

Tigers may presently be seen wandering freely in 13 different countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Only polar and brown bears are larger than tigers, the world's third-largest carnivore and the largest species of cat. The Siberian tiger is the biggest subspecies of tiger, weighing up to 660 pounds.

The purpose of this day is to increase public awareness of the importance of wild tiger habitat protection and expansion. During the Tiger Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2010, it was decided to observe "International Tiger Day" on July 29 every year.

During the meeting, 13 nations with tiger populations pledged to quadruple their tiger numbers by 2022. In fact, poaching and forest destruction have significantly reduced the number of tigers in various countries throughout the world.
