Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is celebrated on 19th February every year to honour the birth anniversary of the great Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He was a visionary leader, a skilled military strategist, and the founder of the Maratha Empire. His legacy continues to inspire millions across India and beyond.
Born in 1630 in the hill fortress of Shivneri, Maharashtra, Shivaji Maharaj was raised with strong moral and warrior values by his mother, Jijabai, and his mentor, Dadoji Kondadev. From a young age, he displayed remarkable leadership and strategic skills, which later helped him build a powerful empire.
Shivaji Maharaj is best known for his military tactics, guerrilla warfare strategies, and strong naval presence. At a time when foreign invaders and Mughal rulers sought to dominate India, he stood as a symbol of resistance and self-rule. His coronation as Chhatrapati (King) in 1674 at Raigad Fort marked the beginning of a new era for the Marathas.
