Support to establish a library For Hemachandra Simanta Sanskrit Vidyalaya
Hemachandra Simanta Sanskrit Vidyalaya was established in the year 1994 in a remote village- Sahapur, in the Balasore district of northern Odisha. It is a Sanskrit High School under the Board of Secondary Education, Govt. of Odisha.
In 2021, the school got permanent reorganization from the Govt. but without any financial support. This adds to the advantage of getting more numbers of tribal kids, although the School is meant for all sectors of society.
The school caters to all sections of society and students can get access to quality education. Most of the students are from tribal backgrounds and currently, there are 200 tribal girls and boys studying in class VI-X, each class having 30-40 children.
All the students are provided with school uniforms, accommodation, free food, and books. From the start of the school date, all the expenditure towards the functioning of the school is borne by several kind-hearted individuals.
Many of them have no house to live & their parents cannot afford their education.
It is quite interesting to note that, all the Santal children speak the "Santali" language (Olchiki), but they do not know the script and also can't read or write Ol Chiki. It is thought to exposé them to their original language (Ol Chiki) through extra efforts beyond their class schedules.
Keeping this in mind it would be beneficial if a Tribal Library and activity room is established on the school premises and it is proposed to procure Ol Chiki literature, and other textbooks.
Further it is proposed to hire an Ol Chiki teacher for teaching the kids. Learning new languages would help strengthen the roots of these children. Currently, they learn in Odia mainly but also in Sanskrit and English.
Another aspect of the library should be to explore the hidden talents of the students in tribal art, painting, dancing, singing etc through maintaining musical instruments, painting materials and typical tribal clothing for their practice & use.
The trustees of the school donate from their side and also get donations from well-wishers who support the library and help the tribal kids with educational resources.
Since most of the children stay back at the residential facility in the school, the library would be a great addition to their future.
To achieve this goal, the construction of a model tribal library is needed and an approximate amount of Rs. 6,00,000/- (six lakhs) is needed to fulfil the target of establishing the same with all the proposed facilities.
Let us support the aim that will benefit future generations of tribal kids studying at Sahapur village.
