Help us build an orphanage for underprivileged children

600 million people are living below the poverty line in India and the majority of these young people are illiterates as they do not have access to quality education due to several factors. One of the reasons for illiteracy is that parents of these kids are poor and busy earning a livelihood, trying to make ends meet and feeding the entire family. There are other reasons like due to lack of awareness, parents prefer not to educate their children and instead engage them in agriculture work, business, labour, or any other work as they face financial loss.

Moreover, when it comes to the case of kids of single parents or orphans, the scenario becomes even more complicated. Patmos Educational and Charitable Trust, to support the children in the villages around Mysore, started a Child Care Institution in the year 2014 with three children and it has now grown to accommodate 25 children. The Trust has rented a house to take care of these children and have adequate staff as caretakers to take care of each child. These children are sent to good English medium schools and given quality education. There are also teachers at the orphanage who support the children with education. Apart from the regular staff, there is also a counsellor and visiting doctor and paramedical staff to help the children with their emotional and physical needs. All legal permissions have been obtained from the government to run this orphanage.

Looking at the increasing number of children who are enrolling in the Child Care Institution, Patmos Educational and Charitable Trust is planning the construction of a separate home for 100 boys in Mysore, Karnataka. The orphanage is estimated to have a built-up area of about 11,700 square feet on 32,670 Sq.ft (30 Guntas) of land, at an estimated total project cost of INR 1.475 Crores for which it is expecting donations from volunteers, supporters and donors. The proposed orphanage home will have 2 dormitories, a study hall, kitchen, play area, dining hall, toilets and library. The Child Care Institution will have a dining facility that can accommodate all the children in a single instance. Besides the dormitories for orphan children, the administration staff also shall be provided with residential quarters. This orphanage project is expected to be completed and ready for operations within one year from the commencement of the project. The breakup of the cost estimate is given below.

Requesting each one of you to contribute generously to the construction of this Child Care Institution and bring a smile to the lives of these children who cannot aspire to a better life without your support.
