“Lochan is our child, and when he was born, we were over the moon; our daughter was happy because she had just gotten a little brother. We had just celebrated his first birthday, after which he fell ill and started having frequent fevers. He lived with my family in our village, and I worked in Mumbai as a laborer and earned a minimum wage. We took him to a few local clinics in the village, but he was not better, and that's when all hell broke loose. Our little boy was diagnosed with a heart defect, and for 3 years, we have been delaying his treatment because I did not have the money. We have shifted him from hospital to hospital in search of affordable treatment or divine intervention, at the least. I feel so helpless as a father; I can’t do anything to ease my son's pain.” -

Lochan Bhandari is the 9-year-old son of Mr. Surat Bhandari and Mrs. Namsara Surat Bhandari, who originally hail from Nepal but have been living in Bhiwandi, Thane, for Lochan’s treatment. Lochan is the middle child, and he has two other siblings. The boy was only 1 year old when after several bouts with fever, he was diagnosed with a heart defect, specifically Mod-Severe TR, Small VSD, S/P VSD Closure. In search of a better treatment option and affordable medicines, the parents took the child to Mumbai, where they went through 3 hospitals before seeking treatment in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where he underwent his first surgery. They finally transferred Lochan to Fortis Hospital in Mulund, Maharashtra.

Lochan has only been in and out of hospitals for almost all of his life. He has never seen a normal day in his life. He goes to a government school but getting through a day is very difficult because he is always in pain and discomfort. The doctors had advised Lochan to undergo a VSD-closure, Redo TV Repair + residual VSd Closure + CT Scan surgery 3 years ago. Still, the surgery has only been delayed because of the family’s financial conditions. This Little boy needs this surgery to live. Help the family save their son.

“He has eaten hospital food since he was a year old. No mother wants that for her child. It breaks my heart to see him in pain. The treatment costs are Rs. 2,87,000/- (Rupees TWO Lakh Eight seven thousand only), but we can’t afford that, we have two other kids, and we live in a rented house. We barely earn enough to feed our family. I just want my son to have a normal life, make friends, play, and come home and spend time with us. Is that too much to ask?
