Around 24% of the world's poor live in India. A household is 1.6 times more likely to be stripped in access to essentials such as shelter, sanitation, education and water if there is an illiterate woman in the family. Likelihood of a house being deprived falls to 1.4 times if the woman is educated till the middle school and further declines to 1.3 times if the woman has attended secondary school. 

About four years back Pandurang Pratisthan started the initiative of providing vocational training to the youth from poor families. Vocational training is provided in tailoring skills, basic computing, fashion designing, beautician skills and accounting. These trainings have been conducted at Mali Samaj Hall and other locations in Kalyan, Maharashtra, India. Close to 500 girls and 350 boys have already benefited from this vocational training programme and have got jobs in Reliance retail and other organizations in the Kalyan area.

However operating these programmes in rental places has created problems for Pandurang Pratisthan like arbitrary increase in rents by owners, damage to training equipment due to constant transfers and inconvenience to trainees. To overcome this situation the organization needs a place where they can teach without worrying about the uncertainties. There is a place near Jai Malhar Nagar and the estimated cost for this purchase and setting up the necessary infrastructure is Rupees 1,25,00,000.

Pandurang Pratisthan is a 10-year-old Kalyan based NGO being single-handedly managed by Dhiresh Harad with support from his family, friends and relatives. Dhiresh even uses his salary from his job at the Tata group to support his NGO.
